Each Gram crystal violet solution contains approximately 0.4% crystal violet aqueous alcohol solution
Each Gram decolorizer solution contains a 3:1 ratio of ethanol to acetone to assure even and consistent decolorization.
Each Gram iodine solution (stabilized) contains an organically stabilized iodine-polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), which retains a safe and constant level of unoxidized iodine to maintain effectiveness as a mordant for at least 15 months. Gram iodine (unstabilized) is designed to prepare a traditional Gram’s working solution without requiring a breakage of ampules. Safranin is a mixture of dimethyl and trimethyl and is most commonly used for counterstaining nuclei red. Basic Fuchsin is a mixture of Pararosanilin, Rosanilin, and Magenta II.
