Zinc and its compounds are used in electroplating baths, for manufacturing zinc coatings, as a mordant for dyes, as a conservation agent, as an additive in glass, enamel and ceramic products and finally, due to its antiseptic action, in cosmetic products.
In alkaline solution zinc ions react with dithizone to form a red complex. The zinc concentration is measured semi quantitatively by visual comparison of the reaction zone of the test strip with the fields of a color scale.
