Consists of Cold Filter Plugging Point Apparatus, Vacuum System and Cooling Bath. Cold Filter Plugging Point Apparatus – Includes borosilicate glass test jar with graduation, brass jacket with plastic support ring, plastic stopper, plastic insulating ring and spacer, pipette and brass filter unit with stainless steel fine wire mesh screen. 


Vacuum System – Connects to Cold Filter Plugging Point Apparatus to draw sample through filter screen. Consists of U-tube Manometer (without mercury), three-way stopcock, air vent tube, cork stopper with elbows, and large glass bottle. Vacuum pump is not included. 


Cooling Baths – Choice of mechanically refrigerated or dry-ice cooled baths. Mechanically refrigerated model utilizes a cascade hermetic cooling system to attain temperatures as low as –90°F (–68°C). The Cold Filter Plugging Point Apparatus inserts in composition top plate of the bath. Includes an insulated stainless steel tank and polished stainless steel cabinet. Dry-ice model includes insulated copper interior and steel exterior with corrosion resistant polyurethane enamel finish. Composition top plate suspends Cold Filter Plugging Point Apparatus in freezing mixture at the required depth. Handles on the exterior allow easy emptying of freezing mixture. Supplied with thermometer holder.

Test Method:

Determines the low temperature flow characteristics of automotive diesel fuels and gas oils, including samples with flow improving additives, by measuring the temperature at which the sample ceases to flow through a wire mesh filter under standard test conditions.
